What this means for the people of New Orleans is that things are slowly getting better. The high rate of unemployment is likely due to the combination of the powerful destruction of Katrina coupled with the economic recession and if you think about it that way the numbers really could be a lot worse - and they are getting better.
Fortunately, It is not as bad as it could be.
WWL.com, the population - and the jobs are starting to come back to the city - with the population approaching 90% of the pre-Katrina totals. According to Simply Hired, a job search and tips website, the unemployment rate of the city as of last November (the last month with hard figures and not estimates) is hovering around 13.2%, which is almost twice the national average.
